Homeless in Los Angeles

The videos about the issues of Skid Row were very interesting. I was shocked to hear that the average age of homeless people in the United States is nine years old. I would never have fathomed there being eighty thousand homeless people each night in Los Angeles alone. I like how the videos were presented. The statistics they used put things into perspective on how serious this issue is because there are so many people that do not have a home. The images of those who have mental problems and are living in these situations are heart wrenching. I also liked how the author asked questions about what was being done and investigating the questions. It is ironic that the wealthy people of Los Angeles live right next to these homeless people who live on the streets and those who are well off do not even know about it. There are a lot of stories that were presented throughout the video. The one with the young boy who witnessed a woman being stabbed to death was so sad. I could not imagine seeing someone murdered and the fact that he is able to help record videos of people living in Skid Row to raise awareness is really inspiring. Another story that was told was when the narrator went to visit a woman living in Skid Row and her son was there and when she turned away he asked the man to take him with him. That breaks my heart to think of a little child who wants to leave their Mother. The story was told in such a way that it made you feel sorry for the boy who is in this situation and because he is so innocent and wants to leave. I hope that this problem can be solved because children should not be growing up in a community where drugs are considered normal. Everyone deserves to have the same opportunities and as a nation we should work on these issues at home. I think that this video was really good and I hope that it spreads awareness on the issue so a solution is made that actually works.
